Kratom Soap

Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa) is a tree native to Southeast Asia.

Mitragyna has a variety of uses and is typically used in aromatherapy treatments (incense). Interestingly enough, Kratom can also be used to make soap.

As a solid emulsion, Kratom soap is chemically stable and can provide deep cleansing and exfoliating benefits that can extend far beyond most commercial soaps.

 

Ingredients (2 large bars of soap, 5-6 small bars of soap):

  • 3 cups glycerin soap base
  • 1/4 cup of lemongrass leaves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon of lemongrass essential oil or extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Irish seaweed oil.
  • 1 teaspoon of Happy Hippo Kratom powder
  • Muffin/cupcake cooking pans or soap molding trays

* optional/replacement: Traditional lye for soap making

Doubling the ingredients will make 4 large bars of soap, tripling the ingredients will make 6 large bars of soap – you get the idea.

The size of your Kratom soap bars will depend on the size of your mold sheets.

This is simply one recipe of hundreds of possible combinations; it can be modified to your liking, you are encouraged to experiment with different types of oil and fragrance.

Preparation:

Infuse the Kratom powder and lemongrass leaves in gently simmering water for about 15-20 minutes.

Use a double boiler (or a small pot nested inside a larger pot, with simmering water in the bottom of the larger pot) and heat the glycerin soap base until it becomes liquid.

Add the herbal infusion, oils, and Irish seaweed powder to the melted glycerin and stir to ensure an even distribution of ingredients. Just spread out your ingredients and don’t let them settle in clumps. Pour the liquid mixture into your muffin or silicon soap molds and let cool.

The total preparation time will take about 40 minutes.

Tips:

As you would do with muffins or cupcakes, wait for your soap to cool and become completely solid before attempting to lift it out of the molds; this will make it easier to separate and retain its structure.

If you’re not using a non-stick silicon mold, you can place a layer of plastic wrap into your muffin tins before pouring in the soap to create a non-stick surface.

Your Kratom soap is ready to use as soon as it cools – it will be solid and hard, just like any other bar of soap.

Creating Kratom soap is actually quite easy (and fun), you will get the hang of it and be able to create numerous bars of soap in the same amount of time.
