Trichocereus cactus typically grow between 10-20ft tall in the wild with the tallest recorded specimen reaching 40ft. While Peruvian Torch is not as well known as San Pedro it's widely believed to be most powerful of the Trichocereus family. Sacred cacti have been used continuously for over 3,000 years in the Andean Mountains region. Peyote is considered one of the four principal deities of the Huichol religion and it's use dates back over 5,000 years. San Pedro is named after St Peter who holds the keys to heaven as the cactus is believed to allow one to reach heaven while still on earth.

Description

Calea zacatechichi is a species of flowering plant native to Mexico and Central America. Its English language common names include bitter-grass, Mexican calea, and dream herb.

The Chontal people of Oaxaca reportedly use the plant during divination. Isolated reports describe rituals that involve smoking a plant believed to be this species, drinking it as a tea, and placing it under a pillow to induce divinatory and lucid dreams due to its properties as an oneirogen.
